Preview and Predictions: No. 13 LSU visits No. 20 Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss football will look to bounce back from a tough loss on the road at Alabama last week when it hosts No. 12 LSU today for what’s sure to be a high-energy atmosphere inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

There’s no love lost between Ole Miss and LSU in this long-standing rivalry. The series between the Rebels and Tigers is the second-longest in school history, having started in 1894, with Saturday’s contest marking the 112th all-time meeting in the series. Ole Miss-LSU trails only the Egg Bowl series against Mississippi State as the longest in the Rebel record books.

The 20th-ranked Rebels (3-1, 0-1 SEC) will welcome an LSU (3-1, 2-0 SEC) team that ranks among the most explosive offenses in the nation, setting a collision course with Ole Miss’ lightning quick offensive attack that will look to get its bearings again after going up against a stout Crimson Tide defense last week.

Our esteemed panel is back again to give your their predictions on the game.

Predictions

Kam Wicker – The Rebel Walk

Ole Miss 27, LSU 30

X-Factor: Ole Miss O-Line The offensive line for the Rebels has struggled to figure it out so this year. A night time SEC matchup will bring a lot of pressure, and not just from the defense. The performance from the big boys up front can make or break this game.

Bold Prediction: Overtime at night in the Vaught? The Tigers open this game up as 3-point favorites, and I’d expect nothing less. These are two teams battling to keep their SEC west hopes alive. We could likely see this one come down to the final play.

Caleb Salers – SuperTalk Mississippi

Ole Miss 27, LSU 35

After scoring a mere 10 points against Alabama, the Ole Miss offense gets some of its mojo back, but it’s ultimately not enough to overcome LSU’s offensive attack with Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers. Jaxson Dart will be a bright light for the Rebels, bouncing back with multiple passing touchdowns. However, LSU will ultimately walk away victorious in the Magnolia Bowl.

Grayson Weir – BroBible

Ole Miss 27 , LSU 21

LSU has struggled to finish tackles in the last two weeks. That trend will continue in the first half of the game, which will open up the field for Jaxson Dart in the second half. Harold Perkins is due for a bounce-back game and will get his, but Ole Miss will counter by containing Jayden Daniels and clogging Logan Diggs’ lanes. Lane Kiffin said that Suntarine Perkins’ spy role was week-to-week. It would make sense to see some spy on Saturday.

Tyler Komis – Inside the Rebels

Ole Miss 31 , LSU 30

Prediction: LSU D-line is tough but I look for Dart to bounce back with a big game.

X factor : Suntarine Perkins

TJ Oxley – The Rebel Walk

Ole Miss 24, LSU 27

Prediction: Everyone wants to talk about offense. I can’t blame them (Point 2 if you’ve been keeping up with the series). Unfortunately this time around it’s in another light. The Rebels’ offense struggled to gain any momentum against Alabama. This has all the feel of a get-right game for both sides. LSU slipped away with a win against Arkansas in a close scoring contest. This one comes down to the run game to me. Offensively, we’ve seen how the run game can set up Dart’s looks down the field for Ole Miss under Lane Kiffin. Last week we saw what happens when it doesn’t. This week I think we see a revamped offensive gameplan that features the run for the Rebels and both Ulysses Bentley and Quinshon Judkins. The wide receiver room is also working on getting healthy. Will the Rebels be able to put enough together to take down an LSU team that has some star talent on both sides of the ball?
