Lane Kiffin wishes tight end Michael Trigg ‘nothing but the best’; linebacker Reginald Hughes issues statement
OXFORD, Miss. — Head coach Lane Kiffin was asked Wednesday on the SEC Coaches Teleconference about the departure from the team of tight end Michael Trigg.
“We wish him nothing but the best. You know, that’s it. We wish him nothing but the best. He’s not part of our program, and that’s it.“
Lane Kiffin on Michael Trigg
Trigg, a transfer from USC, came to Ole Miss via the portal along with his Trojans’ teammate Jaxson Dart in the spring of 2022. He participated in 10 games in a Rebel uniform — seven coming in 2022 — and had three catches for 65 yards and one touchdown thus far in 2023.
In 2022, he caught 17 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns. Trigg was named to the 2023 Mackey Award Watch List before the season began, as well as earned Preseason All-SEC third-team honors. He was suspended this season for the first half of the season opening game against Mercer for disciplinary reasons.
Reginald Hughes
Hughes appeared in all four games this season. He is credited with three tackles, a quarterback hurry and a fumble recovery thus far in 2023.
On Wednesday, Hughes posted a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter:

“First of all, I would like to thank the man above for all of the blessings He has placed upon me on my journey. I would like to thank my family for all of the love and support thus far on my career trek. I would like to thank the University of Mississippi for allowing me the chance to pursue my aspirations for the game I have love for alongside the opportunity to receive a full collegiate education. I have built some prominent relationships with fellow teammates/brothers that’ll never be forgotten and I will truly miss. However, I have faced some unfortunate obstacles during my process which has imposed me to make such a bittersweet decision for my future. With that being stated, I have decided to take a redshirt this year and I will be entering the transfer portal this winter with 2 years of eligibility.”
Reginald Hughes
We wish Reginald and Michael the very best.
