Ole Miss gets commit from Mercer transfer outfielder Treyson Hughes, an All-SoCon honoree

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss baseball received a commitment from Mercer outfielder Treyson Hughes via the transfer portal Tuesday. Hughes played two seasons for the Bears in Macon, Georgia.

He announced his pledge to head coach Mike Bianco and the Rebels via social media.

First of all, I want to thank God and all my family for supporting me and putting me on this awesome and incredible journey. With that being said I have decided to continue my academic and athletic career at The University of Mississippi.

Treyson Hughes

Hughes is a product of Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Georgia. Out of high school, he was ranked the 69th outfielder in the 2021 class by Perfect Game.

This past season, Hughes started all 58 games for Mercer and hit a team-leading .387 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI. He also led the Bears with 85 hits and 15 doubles.

The 6-foot-3 left-handed hitter led the SoCon in on-base percentage (.504) and runs scored (71). He also notched 27 multi-hit games and recorded nine stolen bases.

Hughes finished the 2023 season on a 20-game hitting streak and a 24 straight games getting on base. Defensively, he had a .993 fielding percentage and 133 putouts. His primary primary position is center field.

Hughes earned numerous accolades over his two seasons at Mercer. This past year, he was named to the 2023 All-Southern Conference First Team (Coaches), the 2023 All-Southern Conference First Team (Media) and the 2023 Southern Conference All-Tournament Team.

In 2022 he was named a Perfect Game First Team Freshman All-American and a NCBWA Freshman All-American.

For Ole Miss, Hughes’ commitment adds much-needed depth in the outfield for the 2024 season as, presumably, the main three outfielders from this past season’s team will not be a part of the 2024 team.
