Athlon releases post-spring Top 25 rankings; Rebels in at No. 21
OXFORD, Miss. — Athlon magazine released its post-spring national top 25 and the Rebels are on the list, coming in at No. 21.
Georgia leads the way at No. 1, while Michigan, Alabama, USC and Ohio State round out the top five. There are six SEC teams on the list, including: Georgia (1), Alabama (3), LSU (6), Tennessee (15), A&M (20), and Ole Miss (21).
Of the Rebels, Athlon states:
“It was another busy offseason for the ‘Portal King,’ as head coach Lane Kiffin reeled in a standout haul of transfers on both sides of the ball. Two of those additions came at quarterback, with Spencer Sanders (Oklahoma State) and Walker Howard (LSU) brought in to push Jaxson Dart. Running back Quinshon Judkins returns after a brilliant freshman campaign (SEC-best 1,567 rushing yards). The offense doesn’t have a ton of glaring issues, but the post-spring departure of Texas A&M transfer Chris Marshall added more concerns to the receiving corps. Kiffin also scored an offseason coup when he hired defensive coordinator Pete Golding away from Alabama to fix a unit that gave up 31.3 points per game in SEC play last fall.”
