Ole Miss picks up commitment from Georgia Tech transfer cornerback Zamari Walton

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss picked up another huge commit in the transfer portal Sunday evening as Georgia Tech cornerback Zamari Walton is the latest to pledge to the Rebels.

Walton had entered the portal on January 18, the last day of the winter window. It will re-open on May 1.

At Georgia Tech, Walton was a four-year starter, and in 2022 he notched 36 tackles and one interception. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Over his career, Walton he has played in 42 total games for the Yellow Jackets, finishing there with 123 total tackles, 17 passes defended, three interceptions, one sack, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Walton fills an important area of need for Ole Miss, as the Rebels have lost several at the position to the transfer portal.

Miles Battle transferred to Utah, and Kyndrich Breedlove has joined Deion Sanders at Colorado. Davison Igbinosun has also entered the transfer portal. While the Rebels are still negotiating with Davison, A&M and Georgia are apparently offering a hefty sum for his services.

So with those losses, it’s imperative Ole Miss sign a player like Walton who is considered to be a plug-and-play athlete.

Who Walton joins this fall

Deantre Prince will be back for the Rebels, so that is good news. He finished with 36 tackles and 10 pass breakups in 2022.

Ole Miss also landed a commitment from DeShawn Gaddie, a transfer cornerback from North Texas this past Wednesday. Though nothing has officially been confirmed, there have been rumors that perhaps there is a holdup with his credits and eligibility. We are waiting to learn more on that.

The Rebels also have a commitment from Miami (OH) transfer CB John Saunders who played in 21 games for the Redhawks over the course of two seasons.

Coach Lane Kiffin and company also inked four-star 2023 signee Braxton Myers and have former three-star 2021 signee Demarko Williams and former four-star Markevious Brown returning.
