Ole Miss women’s basketball finishes non-conference play with 75-55 road win over Temple
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss women’s basketball team finished non-conference play with a 75-55 road victory over the Temple Owls Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Rebels led wire-to-wire with their biggest lead reaching 25 points.
The Rebel defense played at a high level yet again, as they held the Owls to 35% shooting for the game. The also forced 19 turnovers, leading to 25 points on the offensive end compared to 8 points off turnovers by Temple. This defensive effort led, as it has during all of non-conference play, to a great offensive performance.
Rebounding was once again in the Rebels’ favor, as they out-rebounded the Owls 37-33. This included grabbing 25 on the defensive boards and 12 on the offensive boards. The Rebel offense also recorded 19 assists. Head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin was proud off these stats because they contribute to the identity of the team.
“That is our philosophy. We want to rebound, run, and share the ball. Everyday, we wear shirts that say, ‘We Defend.’ We feel like if we get a stop, we’ve got to get out in transition.”

The transition Rebels scored 10 fast-break points, contributing to the 36 points in the paint.
“Our energy is in transition, and that is where we flourish,” McPhee-McCuin said. “We thought we had the advantage inside, and we tried to take advantage of that.”
The offense also had one of its better shooting games of the season. They started off hot with 26 points in the first quarter and never looked back. The Rebel squad shot 50% from the field for the game. Coach Yo said that starting fast was in the game plan for Temple.
“We wanted to set the tone right away. We have a lot of respect for Temple. We were really focused. The goal was in the first four minutes to establish that we are the more aggressive team.”
