Ole Miss safety CJ Terrell brings down the house at Texas Bowl team luncheon with his rendition of “Tennessee Whiskey”
HOUSTON, Texas — As the Rebels prepare for Wednesday’s competition against Texas Tech in the TaxAct Texas Bowl, there’s one Ole Miss player who has proven ready for competition any time.
Senior safety CJ Terrell was beckoned on stage at a bowl luncheon Tuesday as his fellow teammates nominated him for a “sing-off” against a Texas Tech player who had just finished singing a few bars of “Amarillo by Morning.”
What happened next is your feel-good moment of the day as Terrell’s rendition of the Chris Stapleton classic “Tennessee Whiskey” had his teammates — and many fans in attendance — fired up with his outstanding vocals.
Emcee Sean Pendergast explained even more details about what happened:
“Terrell got volunteered for this WHILE HE WAS IN THE BATHROOM. He came back into the banquet hall, and got called onto the stage and had no clue why, and then belted this out. Great moment!“

As for CJ, well he was thankful for his teammates who supported him.
The best part about it was the support from my teammates. They’ve encouraged my singing for years and I love them for that💙❤️ https://t.co/L4jc0AtD42
