Coach Yo encourages Ole Miss faithful to show up for her team’s games
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss women’s basketball game Wednesday against Jacksonville was Kids Day for the program. The game’s attendance (8,958) broke a program record for a single game, with the atmosphere matching that of a tournament game.
Head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin said after the game that the record crowd did so much for her team’s mindset and performance. She then passionately called for Rebel Nation to show up and show out at the SJB Pavilion in the future.
“Come out and support these young women. It is not a boring style [of play]. It is an exciting style. It is two hours of your day to come out and support people that proudly wear Ole Miss on their chest. That matters, and that is how you win games. It’s called home-court advantage.”

Coach Yo has been urging fans to show up at her team’s games since she took over as head coach in 2018. She explained the importance of having people in the stands.
“Sometimes, it’s sad for us to come out and not have people in the stands. It’s discouraging when we bring top recruits in the country to come and no one is here. It’s discouraging when our players work their butts off, and everyone is home.”

Coach Yo’s team is 9-2 with two games left until SEC play begins. As she has done many times in the past, she laid out why her team needs the community’s support with hopes that the support will come soon.
“We need people to come out and support Ole Miss women’s basketball,” McPhee-McCuin said.
“We are in the community. We are giving you all everything we have. We are accessible. We love Oxford. We need the support back. Love us like we love you, Oxford community. Come out and support us.”

Coach Yo’s call to the fans is reminiscent of when football head coach Lane Kiffin called for the fans to show out at Rebel football games at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Rebel Nation responded then, but now it is Coach Yo’s and women’s basketball’s turn. This challenge starts this Saturday at the SJB Pavilion at noon against McNeese State. Hotty Toddy!
