Ole Miss lands elite, four-star defensive lineman Jamarious Brown

OXFORD, Miss. — What a weekend it was in Oxford for head coach Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss football as some big-time recruits committed to the program — including Jamarious Brown, one of the most-coveted in-state defensive players.

Juice Fest ’22 — the moniker for the big recruiting weekend that was coined from the name of Lane Kiffin’s Labrador, Juice — did not disappoint with the lineup of talented playmakers.

One of the biggest of those was Brown, a 6 foot 4, 265-pound, four-star defensive end out of Moss Point, who took to social Friday to drop his commitment toCome to the Sip.’

Holding over 19 offers from many power players, including Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas, FSU and Mississippi State, to name a few, Brown chose to help build in his own home state.

The overall no. 5 player in the ‘Sip and No.28 EDGE in the class of 2023 was the first of five commitments Ole Miss would gain over the weekend (Jamarious, Jayvontay Conner, Neeo Avery, Andre Jacobs, and Izavion Miller), closing out a productive summer on the recruiting trail.

Defensive line coach Randall Joyner and co-defensive coordinator Chris Partridge continue to do outstanding work in this cycle, and that has been rewarded with some huge wins in the trenches for the Rebels.

Fit In The ‘Sip

Early on in Coach Kiffin’s tenure at Ole Miss, the defense needed to focus more on rebuilding; whereas, now they have a great deal of talent and are merely reloading with the addition of a playmaker like Jamarious.

During his junior campaign, Brown notched 84 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, five sacks and three forced fumbles.

A three-year starter at Moss Point, Brown has been quite the anchor — and his playmaking was not just limited to the defense.  On the offensive side of the ball last year, he carried 15 times for 83 yards, scoring seven touchdowns along the way.

In looking at Brown’s film, one sees he is a versatile player who will continue to develop. He could eventually settle in at a number of different roles for Ole Miss. He has a large frame with quick feet and hands. That quickness should come as no surprise as Brown also played basketball his freshman and sophomore years.

He is extremely athletic and has great instinct on the defensive front. Look for him to even become more of a force his senior season.

It’s always great to see exceptional talent like his stay close to home. Welcome to the Playmakers’ Party, Jamarious!

Hotty Toddy!
