Devontae Shuler Gets NBA Shot, Signs with Mavs for Summer League
At the conclusion of the 2021 NBA Draft on Thursday, Devontae Shuler did not hear his name called. Similar to Breein Tyree who was an UDFA last season, Shuler will look to take a different path to try and reach the NBA. The good news is that he will get an opportunity to prove his ability for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA’s Summer League series.
There will be three different leagues taking place during the month of August. The Mavericks will participate in the Las Vegas League which will take place from August 8th-17th. Dallas has already leaked its schedule with four nationally televised games starting on August 9th. The matchup against the Sacramento Kings will be featured on ESPN2 on August 15th at 2PM.

This past season, Shuler earned First Team All-SEC honors while leading the Rebels in scoring (15.3 PPG) and assists (3.3) per game. Over his entire Ole Miss career, Shuler started 97 contests for the Rebels. He ranks third in program history in steals while also cracking the Top-10 in three pointers made (8th) and assists (10th). He joins Tyree as the only Rebels under head coach Kermit Davis to earn first team honors.
Dallas Mavericks have already confirmed the names of other members of their roster. Shuler will be joined in Las Vegas by: EJ Onu, Feron Hunt, Carlik Jones, Eugene Omoruyi, and LJ Figureoa. The Mavericks did not own any picks in the 2021 NBA Draft.
