Back on June 26, the 6-foot-five-inch, 275-pound Cushman received an offer from Dan Mullen and the in-state Florida Gators, and some may have expected him to stay home. But that was not to be.
Cushman selected the Rebels over Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Colorado and approximately two dozen other schools. He unofficially visited Ole Miss on June 11 and Florida on June 26.
Connection with coaches and love of Oxford
The Rebel Walk spoke with Cushman Saturday about his reasons for choosing the Rebels.
”I would say the main aspect that made me want to become a Rebel would be the relationship with (O-line) Coach (Jake) Thornton, (offensive analyst) Coach (Phil) Loadholt, and (GA) Coach (Austin) Shepherd, all three of those guys that are in the offensive line room.”

But it wasn’t just the coaching staff that made Cushman realize Ole Miss is the place for him.
“I am most excited about living in Oxford, Mississippi away from my home state of Florida and seeing how the whole city surrounds Ole Miss athletics.”

Cushman’s versatility
Cushman is a talented athlete who could play multiple spots on the Rebels’ offense line. He has played all five positions in high school — center, guard and tackle.
“The main thing is I am very versatile and can play every position, but with my length and athleticism I am seen as a tackle.“

Where the Rebs stand now
With today’s commit from Cushman and Friday’s pledge from defensive end Jacarius Clayton, Ole Miss now stands at eight verbal commits for the class of 2022.
