Ole Miss Adds Feb. 17 Midweek Game against LSU to Hoops Schedule

Rebels to Host Tigers on Wednesday

OXFORD, Miss. — Ole Miss men’s basketball will not have a mid-week layoff as had been anticipated.

The Southeastern Conference announced Sunday the Rebels will play host to LSU Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

This scheduling of games allows for the continued opportunity for all 14 SEC teams to each play 18 conference games with a balance of home and away games during the 2021 season.

Statement from the SEC

Entering the season, the Rebels and Tigers were originally scheduled to play on February 17. But after Ole Miss’ January 9 game against South Carolina was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Gamecocks’ program, the game with LSU was moved up to January 9, a game won by the Tigers, 75-61, in Oxford.

As neither LSU nor Ole Miss had a midweek game scheduled this week, the league decided to have the two teams play again in Oxford.

The matchup creates another all-important Quadrant 1 opportunity for the Rebels (12-8, 7-6 SEC) as they look to make a case for an NCAA Tournament berth. LSU is currently ranked 27th in the NET, while Ole Miss sits at No. 55. The Rebels enter the contest with four straight victories, the SEC’s longest active winning streak. LSU (13-6, 8-4) has won its last two.
