This is a huge commit for the Rebels. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Altmyer is rated as the No. 12 pro-style passer and the No. 3 overall recruit from the state of Mississippi in the 2021 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Altmyer had been committed to FSU dating back to February but visited Oxford recently, including for the Rebels’ 31-24 win over Mississippi State. He held scholarship offers from Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Mississippi State, among many others.
Regarding Ole Miss, Altmyer told 247Sports last month: “Obviously close to home, not too far from where I am. I think Coach (Lane) Kiffin and Coach (Jeff) Lebby’s offense is straight production and efficiency. What they’re doing right now is really cool and I know a lot of people down there. I’m more familiar with it.”
Earlier this week, Altmyer’s little brother, Whit, was snapped wearing a “Kiffin/Altmyer ’21” T-shirt.
