Most Impactful Rebels for 2019: No. 32 Quentin Bivens

OXFORD, Miss. — As we count down the days until the Ole Miss season opener against Memphis in the Liberty Bowl, we are releasing who we think the Top 50 Most Impactful Players will be for the Rebels this season. This series is a way for Ole Miss fans to learn more about players to keep an eye on this fall.

With 32 days before kickoff, coming in at No. 32…

Quentin Bivens

Quentin Bivens was a consensus three-star defensive lineman, according to ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports, when he signed with Ole Miss in the class of 2018. While a senior at Wayne County High School (Waynesboro, Miss.), he made 66 tackles, three sacks, eight quarterback hurries, and one interception.

The 6-foot-2, 299-pound Bivens was also the first player to commit to Ole Miss in the class of 2018. Defensive line coach Freddie Roach was pleased with the pledge.

Quentin is big long rangy kid and shows a lot of suddenness. He has an unbelievable upside and enjoys the game of football.

Last season, Bivens appeared in three games but was redshirted in order to preserve his eligibility. This spring, Bivens was able to get a lot of reps on the defensive line. With Benito Jones, Josiah Coatney, and Sincere David all limited during the spring due to injury, Bivens definitely made the most of his time on the field.

He is also making the most of his time in the classroom, earning Student-Athlete of the Month for Football for March, 2019.

Defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre was impressed with Bivens’ play during the spring. “Quentin improved a lot,” he said.

I thought Quentin really improved as the spring went along at nose (tackle). I’m excited about that. We can’t wait to get those guys back that were hurt and get them fitted in the defense, but the more depth you can have, the more experience in that area, the better.

Defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre

In the recently released depth chart before the beginning of fall camp, Bivens was named the backup to Benito Jones at defensive tackle. Look for him to be a big piece for the Landshark defense moving forward as Jones is a senior, and Bivens is only a redshirt freshman.

Bivens will get plenty of opportunity this fall to help the Rebels. That experience will greatly help this defensive line moving forward with the departures seniors of Jones, Coatney, and Robinson after this season ends.

Keep an eye out on No. 94 this fall!
