Doug Nikhazy named SEC Freshman of the Week for second time
Ole Miss baseball freshman left-hander Doug Nikhazy was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season as announced by the league office Monday.
The Windermere, Florida native went 7.0 innings in the Rebels’ 13-3 win over No. 6 Texas A&M Friday, allowing just two runs, one earned, on four hits. Nikhazy struck out a career-high 10 and did not walk a single Aggie en route to earning his fifth win of the season.
His outing against the Aggies was the second-longest of his Ole Miss career, behind only his 7.2-inning performance at Missouri. The 10 strikeouts Nikhazy notched Friday were three more than his previous career-best of seven (vs. East Carolina).
