Ole Miss hires Mike MacIntyre as defensive coordinator
OXFORD, MS — The hunt for a defensive coordinator is over in Oxford. As of Sunday afternoon, various outlets were reporting Ole Miss’ hire of Mike MacIntyre, the former head coach of Colorado. Rivals first reported the news.
It has been a dramatic couple of days for Ole Miss as Pete Golding, Alabama linebackers coach and front-runner for the position, played will-he-won’t-he with Rebel Nation before apparently removing his name from consideration, as some outlets reported.
With 10 days left before the early signing period begins for the 2019 recruiting class, it seemed important for Rebels’ head coach Matt Luke to find a new defensive coordinator. In his November 27th press conference, however, Luke explained that he wouldn’t rush the hiring of a defensive coordinator just to fill the position before the early signing period. Instead, he was going to make sure he found the right man for the job.
Not two weeks later, Luke has found his guy.
This isn’t MacIntyre’s first stop in Oxford. MacIntyre served as wide receivers coach at Ole Miss from 1999-2000 and then defensive backs coach from 2001-2002 under David Cutcliff.
