Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown named AP All-American
Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown was named to the Associated Press All-America third team, the publication announced Monday afternoon.
Brown, a sophomore from Starkville, Mississippi, concluded the 2017 season as the Rebels’ single-season record-holder in receiving yards with 1,252. He tied for first in receiving touchdowns in a season with 11.
He was tops in the SEC in 2017 and ranks sixth nationally in receiving yards per game (104.3). His six 100-yard receiving games is tied for best in a single season, equaling the mark set by Laquon Treadwell in 2015.
Brown, the 2017 Conerly Trophy winner, also finished third on the single-season record charts in receptions (75).
Notes:
The SEC finished with three first-team All-Americans (Braden Smith, senior guard, Auburn; Roquan Smith, junior LB, Georgia; Minkah Fitzpatrick, junior safety, Alabama). The Big Ten led all conferences with seven first-teamers. The Big 12 was second with six on the first team, while the Pac-12 was tied with the SEC with three.
The SEC led all conferences with 15 players selected to all three teams, with the ACC coming in at second, placing 14 on the list. The Big Ten and Big 12 finished with 13 and 12, respectively.
