SEC Media Days begin today in Hoover; Rebels take stage Thursday
When SEC Media Days begin, it’s a sign that another season of college football is quickly approaching. Media Days start off this Monday in Hoover, Ala. at the Wynfrey Hotel and conclude Thursday, July 13.
All of the SEC head coaches plus three student athletes from each program will be in attendance to give the media the latest on what lies ahead in what is expected to be another entertaining year of SEC football.
Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze set to take the podium Thursday, July 13. (See below for full schedule.)
Joining Coach Freeze will be offensive lineman Javon Patterson; quarterback Shea Patterson; and defensive tackle Breeland Speaks.
Javon Patterson
The 6’3, 314-lb Patterson is a junior from Petal, Miss. He is the only Rebel lineman who started every game in 2016, earning three starts at center and nine at left guard, and helped Ole Miss rank 13th nationally in passing (314.9 yards per game) and fewest TFLs allowed (4.67 per game).
Shea Patterson
Patterson, a 6’2, 203-lb sophomore quarterback from Shreveport, La., played in and started the last three games of 2016, taking over after Chad Kelly suffered a torn ACL. Patterson is just the sixth true freshman to start at QB in Ole Miss history–and the first to start three games. In those three contests, he averaged 293.3 passing yards per game, totaling 880 yards and six touchdowns on 72 of 132 passing. Patterson also rushed for 169 yards on 41 carries.
Breeland Speaks
Speaks is a 6’3, 285-lb junior defensive tackle from Jackson, Miss. He played in every game in 2016 and started eight games at defensive tackle. Last season he tied for the team lead with eight QB hurries. He totaled 28 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1.0 sack and a pass breakup.
