Week 5 SEC Picks from Southern Girl Rebel
Let’s talk about Hot Seats this week. How long do you think Butch Jones will have to hear about not going for two on the play that ultimately sealed Tennessee’s fate against Florida last week? Game management seems to be a struggle after blowing leads in the last two games. The struggle for an identity is real for Jones and his team this year.
Facing similar criticism is Brett Bielema who has led Arkansas to a 1-3 season so far and is picking up a lot of heat from fans. Could we be looking at new SEC coaches next season?
The biggest game of the week will definitely be Ole Miss heading to the Swamp! Cheering for my Rebels all the way!
South Carolina (2-2, 0-2 SEC) at Missouri (3-1, 0-1 SEC)
11:00 am SEC Network
Both teams are fighting for their first SEC win of the season. Neither team has shown much improvement this season, and Missouri will be without its starting QB Maty Mauk for the game. Expect both teams to really go at it for this much-coveted “W” in the SEC Column.
My Pick: South Carolina
13 Alabama (3-1, 0-1 SEC) at 8 Georgia (4-0, 2-0 SEC)
2:30 pm CBS
Georgia has all the momentum on its side to face the Tide, and Alabama cannot afford another loss if it has any hope of playing in the state of Georgia again this year for the SEC title. Georgia is looking for its first win against Alabama since 2007. The Bulldogs’ quarterback has yet to throw an interception, and defensively they should be able to match up against the Tide. The rule is you never pick against Alabama, but my Rebels proved that it can be done.
My Pick: Georgia
San Jose St (2-2) at Auburn (2-2, 1-1 SEC)
3:00 pm SEC Network
Auburn’s offense can be seen on milk cartons across the state of Alabama. Has anyone seen them? That being said, they may play their best game of the year against St Jose St.
My Pick: Auburn
3 Ole Miss (4-0, 2-0 SEC) at 25 Florida (4-0, 2-0 SEC)
6:00 pm ESPN
Biggest Match of the Day! Florida is looking for a repeat of its comeback against the Vols, and Ole Miss is trying to prove it has the staying power to take it all! The Rebels looked tired against Vandy last week coming off of the big win over Bama. This could be another signature win for the Rebels in their journey to the top!
My Pick: Ole Miss
E Michigan (1-3) at 9 LSU (3-0, 1-0 SEC)
6:00 pm ESPNU
LSU could make this a less painful loss for E Michigan by taking a knee in the first 5 minutes and continuing until the clock runs out.
My Pick: LSU
Arkansas (1-3, 0-1 SEC) at Tennessee (2-2, 0-1 SEC)
6:00 pm ESPN2
It is the battle of the flattop hair cut. I’m sure neither coach expected to be in the spot they are in coming into this game, but both will be fighting to get out of the zero column in SEC wins.
My Pick: Arkansas
Vandy (1-3, 0-2 SEC) at Middle Tennessee (2-2)
6:00 pm CBS Sports Network
One of the greatest things I saw on twitter this week was Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee fans going hard about who is going to win this weekend. That is all you need to know about the state of the program. Vanderbilt looked great defensively against the Rebels and have shown real progress. Time to go in a get a win.
My Pick: Vandy
21 Mississippi State (2-1, 1-1 SEC) at 14 Texas A&M (4-0, 1-0 SEC)
6:30 pm SEC Network
State is looking to upset this quiet, undefeated SEC team at home, but the Aggies will likely prove too much for the Dawgs.
My Pick: Texas A&M
E Kentucky (2-1) at Kentucky (3-1, 2-1 SEC)
6:30 pm SEC Network
Hey Kentucky, go get your win!
My Pick: Kentucky
