Ole Miss moves Buford to running back

With freshman running back Eric Swinney out for the season with a stress fracture in his leg, coach Hugh Freeze has decided to add redshirt freshman D.K. Buford to the running backs’ depth chart.

Buford was originally supposed to play cornerback for Ole Miss this season, but the slight change to the Rebels’ depth chart won’t have any effect on Buford’s ability to make plays. He once came out of the backfield as a member of the Lafayette High Commodores. The 5-foot-11, 221-pound was ranked as the fifth-best all-purpose back in the country by 247Sports.

Senior running back Jaylen Walton, who rushed for 586 yards and five touchdowns last season, will get a bulk of the touches this upcoming season for Ole Miss. Outside of Walton, backs Jordan Wilkins, Akeem Judd and Eugene Brazley will also carry the ball.

Swinney, a former four-star recruit, will most likely be redshirted after having surgery on his stress fracture.
