Will Golsan providing a spark for the Rebels
Ole Miss second baseman Will Golsan did not begin the season in the Ole Miss lineup, but it sure didn’t take the freshman long to get Head Coach Mike Bianco’s attention.
On March 4, in the midweek game in Hattiesburg, Golsan found his way into the Rebels’ lineup at second base, and by March 23 he was named SEC Freshman of the Week, giving Ole Miss its first weekly accolade of the 2015 season.
He was outstanding in the Rebels’ series against No. 1 Florida, going 5-for-9 at the plate.
At the SEC Baseball Tournament Coaches’ Media Teleconference Monday, The Rebel Walk asked Coach Bianco what his most pleasant surprise was this season, and the Rebels’ head coach didn’t hesitate to name Golsan:
“The year Will Golsan has had as as a true freshman—that’s the first thing that comes to mind. Will wasn’t even starting at the beginning of the year. We’ve got a young club and we started some young people, but Will wasn’t one of those people.” Head Coach Mike Bianco
Golsan has the ability to play many positions, as well as an innate ability to put the bat on the ball. “We got off to a slow start and needed a spark offensively,” Bianco said. “We inserted him into the lineup and he’s made the most of the opportunity and I’m really proud of him.”
If Golsan continues to play so well, the Rebels can look forward to a deep run in Hoover.
