Rebels drop 6-1 game to Tide in SEC tourney
Ole Miss dropped a single-elimination, first-round game in the Southeastern Conference Tournament this morning, losing 6-1 to No. 11 seed Alabama at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
The Rebels now head back to Oxford to await the NCAA Tournament announcement.
Ole Miss, the sixth seed in the tournament, tallied nine hits in the game, but it wasn’t enough as Alabama (31-26) broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning, scoring 4 runs in a huge two-out rally.
Ole Miss (30-26) was led at the plate by sophomore Errol Robinson who went 2-for-5 with one RBI. It was Robinson’s 14th multi-hit game this season. Freshmen Kyle Watson and Will Golson, along with sophomore J.B. Woodman, notched two singles apiece for the Rebels.
Senior Scott Weathersby went 6.0 innings for the Rebels. The right-hander from Hattiesburg allowed three runs on seven hits with two walks. Sophomore lefty Wyatt Short pitched 1.2 scoreless innings.
Alabama pitcher Geoffrey Bramblett (8-3) went the distance on the mound for the tide, giving up one run on nine hits.
