Ole Miss’ Dontario Drummond Accepts Invitation to Play in Reese’s Senior Bowl

Ole Miss’ Dontario Drummond Accepts Invitation to Play in Reese’s Senior Bowl

OXFORD, Miss. – At the conclusion of the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the Ole Miss equipment managers will be collecting the players’ pads for refurbishing in the offseason. But Dontario Drummond will still need to hold onto his pads for a bit longer.

The Rebels’ receiver has accepted an invitation to play in the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Lauren native was easily the most productive Ole Miss receiver, picking up his game after Braylon Sanders and Jonathan Mingo each lost time to injuries. Drummond, who also played at East Mississippi Community College, caught 67 passes for 924 yards and eight touchdowns.

He averaged 13.79 yards per catch and 84 yards per game in helping the Rebels to a 10-2 record, the first 10-win season in school history.

Drummond ran the ball three times for 24 yards and scored once and he completed his only pass attempt for 19 yards.

Dontario is a guy that played his way into the Senior Bowl roster this fall. His talent translated onto the field more consistently this year. He is a 220-pound man that can do things with the ball in his hands and every team in the NFL is looking for that type of guy. We’re excited that Dontario is coming to Mobile.

Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy on Dontario Drummond

He joins Tennessee’s Velus Jones, Jr., as the only SEC receivers to officially be named to play in the game.

So far, the other receivers committed are Kahlil Shakir (Boise State), Alec Pierce (Cincinnati), Calvin Austin, III (Memphis), Romeo Daubs (Nevada), Jahan Dotson (Penn State), Bo Melton (Rutgers), Reggie Roberson, Jr., and Danny Gray (SMU), Jaylon Tolbert (South Alabama) and Tre Turner (Virginia Tech).

Drummond may not be the only Rebel playing in the game. Sam Williams, Tariqious Tisdale, Lakia Henry, Otis Reese, Tavius Robinson and Keidron Smith are also on the Senior Bowl’s watch list. Two other Rebels appear on the list but cannot play. Ben Brown was lost for the season with an arm injury and Jalen Knox had to sit out the season after transferring from Missouri.
