Most Impactful Rebels for 2019: No. 46 Mac Brown

OXFORD, Miss. — As we count down the days until the Ole Miss season opener against Memphis in the Liberty Bowl, we are releasing who we think the Top 50 Most Impactful Players will be for the Rebels this season. This series is a way for Ole Miss fans to learn more about players to keep an eye on this fall.

With 46 days before kickoff, coming in at No. 46…

No. 46 – Mac Brown

Mac Brown, a AP first-team All-State punter out of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was a member of the Rebels’ 2016 recruiting class. He was redshirted in 2016 and saw action in four games during the 2017 season.

Brown started at punter for Ole Miss last season as a redshirt sophomore and tallied 48 punts for an average of 41.3 yards per punt. His stat line for those punts includes four touchbacks, eighteen fair-catches, thirteen punts inside the twenty yard-line, and six punts going for over fifty yards–with a career long punt of sixty-five yards. While Brown is the starter headed into fall camp, the Rebels will also have Garrett Childers, a preferred walk-on out of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

One simply cannot underestimate the special teams game. Punting can help flip the field and keep momentum with your team if your punter has the ability to pin the ball deep inside the opposing team’s twenty yard-line. Punters around the league like Braden Mann at Texas A&M (2018 Ray Guy Award winner) and Zach Von Rosenberg at LSU have continually been a thorn in the side of opposing teams due to their ability to pin teams back deep in their own territory, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see Mac move into that category this season.

Mac Brown and Luke Logan earn scholarships

At SEC Media Days in Hoover Tuesday, Ole Miss head coach announced that Mac and Kicker Luke Logan have both earned scholarships for the upcoming season. Congratulations to Mac and Luke!

An Impactful Life

Beyond his work as the Ole Miss punter, Brown has also made a huge impact in another arena–this one off the gridiron. In 2012, after a friend’s father was diagnosed with ALS, Brown, a seventh-grader at the time, decided to open a lemonade stand to raise money for him. He called it the Awesome Lemonade Stand (ALS), and his goal was to raise $500.

Well, he smashed that goal, having raised upwards of $50,000 thus far.  Mac’s lemonade stand still raises money to this day and continues to benefit ALS research.
