Rebels looking forward to opportunity to showcase their skills

Breeland Speaks and Marquis Haynes were two of the most formidable players on the Ole Miss defense–and in the Southeastern Conference last season. We asked them what they are looking forward to at Tuesday’s Ole Miss Pro Day.

Breeland, who is forgoing his senior season of eligibility to enter the draft, played in every game for the Rebels the last three years with 19 starts, including the last seven at defensive end after moving from tackle.

Last season, Speaks ranked sixth in the SEC with 7.0 sacks, led the team with eight QB hurries and finished second on the team in tackles (67). He tells us he is eager to get out on the field in front of NFL scouts.

I am looking forward to being the best I can on the field tomorrow.”

As for Haynes, he racked up almost every accolade one could imagine in his four years with the Rebels–including the most prestigious of all, the Chucky Mullins Courage Award.

Marquis is also the Rebels’ modern-era career sacks leader with 32 and holds the modern-era career tackle-for-loss record with 47.5.

On the eve of Pro Day at Ole Miss, Marquis tells The Rebel Walk he is excited about the chance to work out for NFL execs and scouts.

I want to show the scouts how much I love the game, itself, and how I’m ready to learn more about football.

While Speaks, Taylor, Haynes and Wilkins participated in the NFL Combine in February, Tuesday’s event offers additional Rebels the chance to showcase their skills to NFL decision-makers ahead of April’s NFL Draft.

In addition to the players from the 2017 class, there will also be an opportunity for former Ole Miss players who concluded their careers prior to 2017 to participate. Defensive tackle Issac Gross is one of the Rebels expected to work out on Pro Day.

The event is closed to the public, but media members will be allowed in and will report on the events as they progress. Stay tuned to The Rebel Walk for updates!
