Ole Miss loses first SEC road game of season to Georgia, 71-60
Ole Miss dropped a 71-60 contest to Georgia in Athens Wednesday night, falling to 1-1 in Southeastern Conference play.
Georgia’s Juwan Parker, who has already graduated with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, came off the bench and scored a career-high 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Yante Maten scored 15 points and Derek Ogbeide added 14 for Georgia (10-3, 1-1).
Sophomore guard Breein Tyree led Ole Miss (8-6, 1-1) with 17 points. Devontae Shuler tallied 11, while Markel Crawford added 9.
Rebels struggle from long range
Though the Rebels entered the game making 10.2 3-pointers per game over the last five, they struggled against Georgia, making only four of 13 from long range in the first half.
Things didn’t go much better from deep in the second half for Ole Miss as the Rebels missed their first eleven from beyond the arc–and Georgia used that drought to push out to a double-digit lead.
After the game, Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy assessed his team’s troubles from three-point range.
“I thought our approach was wrong offensively and that we settled too much,” Kennedy said. “And I think of our six, four were in the last two minutes of the game when we were just trying to battle back the best we could,” he explained.
“We are a team that has had around 17 assists per game, and we only had six on the night,” Kennedy continued.
“Granted you can’t get assists without making a field goal, but I just thought we were not getting any ball movement whatsoever and were settling for perimeter shots and when you are six for twenty-six you are in for a long night.”

Tyree’s late rally falls short
Late in the game, Tyree rallied the Rebels to within 8 with 1:39 to play, behind his two 3s and a driving layup. However, Georgia ultimately hit another three-pointer to seal the win for the Bulldogs.
