Ole Miss receives sanctions from NCAA, including two-year bowl ban
Ole Miss finally knows its fate, as the NCAA Committee on Infractions handed down sanctions for the university’s football program this morning.
According to Steven Godfrey at SB Nation, Ole Miss receives the following:
- Additional year bowl ban (2018 season)
- Due to the additional year bowl ban, players are allowed to transfer to another school without sitting out for a season
- Probation, which will run concurrently with the current probation (for a total of four years).
- Financial penalties
- Scholarship reduction of 13–which is in addition to the 11 over four years Ole Miss already self-imposed.
- Show-cause for coaches named in the NCAA investigation. The Ole Miss Spirit reports show-cause actions for former assistants David Saunders, Chris Vaughn, Chris Kiffin and Barney Farrar. Apparently current assistant coaches Derrick Nix and Maurice Harris avoided show-causes.
After almost a half-decade of investigation, where Ole Miss was ultimately charged with 21 allegations–15 of which are Level I–the university received the committee’s ruling at approximately 8:30 a.m.
