Ole Miss lands two commitments for its 2017 class

Ole Miss Football has picked up two commits for the 2017 class, as EMCC defensive end Jay Johnson and Bob Jones High School safety A.J. Harris recently committed to play for the Rebels.

EMCC defensive end Jay Johnson commits to Ole Miss

East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) defensive end/linebacker Jay Johnson committed to the University of Mississippi, making what is a second pledge to the Rebels after once being part of Ole Miss’ 2015 class before going the JUCO route.

Johnson, 6-foot-4, 230-pounds, didn’t play for the Lions last season, choosing to sit out instead. In the fall, he will play for EMCC  then will arrive in Oxford in January of next year. Johnson will have three years of eligibility remaining.

During his days in high school, Johnson played safety and was rated a three-star prospect. According to 247Sports, Johnson was ranked as the 45th best athlete in the nation.

A.J. Harris becomes 12th commitment in the Rebels’ 2017 class

Bob Jones High School product A.J. Harris announced via Twitter on Sunday that he’s coming to Ole Miss. The 6-foot, 190-pound safety picked the Rebels over Florida State, Alabama, Duke, Michigan, Tennessee and others.

Harris is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, which has the Madison, Alabama native rated as the 27th best athlete in the state of Alabama and 35th best at his position.

After Harris announced he was coming to Oxford, he became the 12th commitment for the Rebels’ 2017 recruiting class, which is ranked 10th in the Southeastern Conference and No. 28 in the nation by 247Sports.
