Clair and Edie receive weekly awards from SEC after Rebels win Magnolia Invitational

After defeating Northwestern State in the Magnolia Invitational to capture its second-consecutive title, the Ole Miss Volleyball team walked away with the trophy, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award and two names tagged to the All-Tournament Team.

But more recognition came on Monday.

Senior middle blocker Nakeyta Clair was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week and junior setter Aubrey Edie was tagged SEC’s Setter of the Week. Both players played a pivotal role in the Rebels’ two-day, three-win festival.

Clair, the tournament’s MVP, led the team in kills (38) and blocks (8), while hitting .567. Edie, a Magnolia Invitational All-Tournament Team member for the second year in a row, had 125 assists and five serving aces. In the win over the Demons, Edie recorded 41 assists and nine digs.

Clair and Edie are accustomed to being recognized and awarded for their play on the hardwood floor. Clair’s Offensive Player of the Week award now brings her total to four for her career. She was honored with this same award twice last season and received Freshman of the Year honors in 2012.

As for Edie, this is her third time receiving positive feedback from the SEC. She was named Offensive Player of the Week in 2014 and Freshman of the Week in 2013.

Ole Miss finished the tournament hitting .328 while holding its opponents to .179. With wins over Oral Roberts, Tennessee State, and NWST, the Rebels have now won 17-consecutive non-conference matches dating back to last season.

Ole Miss (3-0) hopes to keep its streak alive on Tuesday when the Rebels host McNeese State (11 a.m.) and Tennessee-Martin (7 p.m.). Both games will be televised on the SEC Network.
